PHCN assets handover: No going back on Nov 1 – FG

Abuja The Federal Government yesterday insisted that it would go ahead with the physical handover of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) assets across the country to the new owners on November 1, 2013.

This came on the heels of threats by disengaged PHCN workers to begin nationwide strike on the same date should all their members not be paid by then.Government also said over 6000 out of the 47,913 workers were yet to be verified and paid their entitlements.

Briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the all stakeholders in the power privatisation process meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, assured of a successful handover.

Igali accompanied  by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Benjamin Dikki and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Dr. Bright Okogu, disclosed that 40,093 out of the 47,913 identified disengaged PHCN workers had been fully paid their entitlements which he put at N294.4billion. He said while N214.2billion was paid as their severance package, their pension was N80.2billion.

Igali explained that while the severance package went directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries, the gratuity payments were made to their pension fund custodian, adding that the documents of additional 605 workers, who were validated on Tuesday had been sent for payment.He further disclosed that the government currently has issues with some workers whose biometric data were corrupted.Those under this category are  1,478 from Enugu Distribution Company and 929 others nationwide, who would be invited to Abuja for recapturing.

CHRIS BROWN ENTERS REHAB FOR ANGER MANAGEMENT

Chris Brown has just entered a rehab facility for anger management issues ... presumably to deal with his temper problems and to blunt a possible prison sentence.

Sources tell TMZ ... Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, just dropped him off at a facility in Malibu. The move doesn't come a day too soon. 

We've learned the L.A. County probation department is going full bore in its investigation to determine if Brown violated his probation in the Rihanna case by getting arrested in D.C. over the weekend ... after allegedly punching a guy in the nose.

Sources tell TMZ, Brown flew to L.A. after getting released from the D.C. jail and met with L.A. County Probation Department officials today.

We're told it's likely the Probation Department will determine that Brown violated his probation, and a judge could sentence him to as much as 4 years in prison.

Along with Geragos, we're told him mom and GF Karrueche accompanied Chris to the facility.

The rehab move could show a measure of good faith and contrition.

The Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura has admitted to donating N1 Million to the Dangerous Ombatse Sect.

The Group has been accused of killing security personnel in May 2013. Al-Makura admitted this on Friday at a commission of inquiry into the attack that occurred in Alakyo Community.

He said the youths were protesting against the military, which, they alleged, obstructed their prayer session at Alogani Village.

Mr Al-Makura's comments came in response to statements by the legal adviser to Ombatse, Zamani Allumaga, who said that the governor gave leaders of the group and Eggon Community Development Association, ECDA, N2 million when they visited him in November, 2012.

The governor’s appearance and his claim have stirred a fresh round of controversy in the state. The state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Youth leader, Mohammed Barde, called the governor’s action “criminal” and said he was abetting criminality.

Mr. Barde said the governor’s appearance and testimony set a bad precedence and rubbished the exalted seat of the governor. According to Ismaila Ahmed of Angwan Waje, Keffi, Mr Al-Makura’s appearance makes him an interested party.

Mr. Ahmed added that the governor could not be a judge in his own case, and as such, the commission should not submit its report to him but to a separate body accepted by all parties involved.

Attempted murder charges have been opened against the police after local musician Khuli Chana was shot and wounded during the early hours of this morning.The musician was shot by officers in an unmarked vehicle just after the New Road offramp in Midrand. The 31-year-old rapper, whose real name is Khulane Morule, stopped at the Caltex garage on New Road in Midrand for coffee before a performance. As he was leaving, he tried to pass an unmarked minivan and was unexpectedly shot at.

The police’s Neville Malila says the officers tried to stop Chana, but he didn’t pull over.“Members that were on the offramp jumped into the road and flagged the vehicle down. The vehicle didn’t stop and that is when two warning shots were fired at his vehicle.” Chana’s manager Refiloe Ramogase says Chana is lucky the bullets ended up in the vehicle’s seat.“He’s just very lucky that the bullets ended up in the vehicle’s seat. One bullet is lodged in his finger and there’s some shrapnel in his back.”Ramogase says it appears that the police officers mistook him for a criminal. “Apparently there was some kidnapping which happened and a car which roughly matched Khuli’s car was involved.”

Women Who Are More Powerful Than Jonathan In Nigeria

Lol! Who wouldn't want to know the women that are more powerful than the president of the nation, funny as it may seem, check out the reasons why they are more powerful.

Most of the glaring cases of abuse of power including reckless spending of taxpayers’ money have been carried out by the women in Jonathan’s cabinet. These women have proven to be more powerful than the number one citizen of Nigeria because despite public outcries that greet some of their decisions, they go scot-free.

 

Patience Jonathan - In Nigeria’s history, Patience Jonathan is believed to be the most powerful First Lady in terms of the amount of influence she has over her husband and his cabinet. Mrs. Jonathan first gave a glimpse into the enormous power she wields in 2011 when she traversed the country, campaigning for her husband in a way that irked many Nigerians.

 Several calls by individuals and groups to the President to restrain his wife yielded no result.

Also, in June this year, in apparent violation of the electoral act, Mrs Jonathan reportedly started campaigning for her husband ahead of the 2015 elections.

 

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala - Right from when the negotiation to bring her from the World Bank started, it was obvious that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was bound to wield so much power in Jonathan’s government. With her position as the coordinating minister for the economy (a new position created for her) and Finance Minister, Okonjo-Iweala, who is currently 83rd on Forbes’ global list of powerful women, calls the shots as far as Nigeria’s economy is concerned.

 While doing that, she has called the bluff of many including state governors and the National Assembly without any consequence.

 

Diezani Alison-Madueke - Virtually all sections of the Nigerian society have called for the resignation of the Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, all to no avail. Most of those who sought her removal had cited several allegations of corrupt practices under her watch as reasons for their demand.

 After the revelation of massive fraud in the fuel subsidy administration to the tune of N1.7trn, many had thought that heads would roll, including that of Alison-Madueke, who supervised the rot.

 Some heads did roll, but not that of the queen of the Nigeria oil and gas industry.

 

Stella Oduah - Not many are aware of the tremendous power of the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, in Jonathan’s government. For her role in Jonathan’s 2011 campaign, she was reportedly rewarded with a ministerial appointment to the aviation ministry, even though she had no prior training in the field of aviation.

 Many believe that the President feels indebted to her for her role as the Director of Finance and Administration of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation and in the establishment of Neighbour-to-Neighbour outfit, which reportedly spent billions of naira on adverts and media propaganda in favour of Jonathan, especially while the Occupy Nigeria protest lasted.

Considering this relationship with Jonathan, it should not be a surprise that Oduah’s response to critics after the Dana and Associated Airlines crashes reeked of arrogance.

The latest revelation that she forced the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to buy her bulletproof vehicles has again elicited calls for her removal and prosecution but considering the way the President has treated public outcries against these powerful women, Oduah is likely to remain minister till the end of Jonathan’s administration.

 

Ms. Arunma Oteh - Through her battles, the Director-General of the Securities Exchange Commission, Ms. Arunma Oteh, has sufficiently earned the name ‘Iron lady’ even beyond her official sphere of influence.

When she clashed with the House of Representatives Committee on the Capital Market, it was the chairman of the committee, Mr. Herman Hembe, that got hurt. The committee had accused Oteh of fraud and misappropriation of funds. She fired back, accusing Hembe of demanding bribe from SEC.

The SEC board suspended Oteh in order to investigate the findings of the lawmakers, who probed the capital market and indicted her. She immediately petitioned the President and Okonjo-Iweala.

 After two months, the President returned Oteh to her position, following the auditor’s report that said her offence amounted only to ‘administrative lapses.’ The directors and staff of the commission, who had protested Oteh’s alleged high-handedness, were advised to calm down and obey their boss.

Nigerian ex-Soldier tells why he killed his 14-year old daughter

John Udin, a retired soldier may likely spend the rest of his life in jail for killing his 14-year old daughter, Glory.
John 72, from Jesse, Warri in Delta State was discharged from the Nigerian Army in 1999 as a corporal. He has 11 children from three wives. Two of the wives and seven children are in Jesse, while he resides at 28 Adewale Street, Iba New Site, Ojo, Lagos with the youngest wife, Comfort and four children in a two-room apartment.
Last Tuesday, what started as a minor family quarrel turned fatal.While Comfort, Glory, and three of her children were preparing for Church Service, John(father) blocked the entrance and asked them not to leave the compound.
According to the ex-soldier, when Glory noticed that the gate was closed, she made a derogatory sign. John said Glory has no respect for me and this made him angry.
Out of anger he dragged Glory to their bedroom where he allegedly beat her with a nail-studded plank.
According to Comfort, her husband didn’t allow their daughter any medical assistance.
“I went and called a nurse who came and gave her some treatment at home. When she was not improving, my husband took her to a hospital where she died” Comfort said.
Glory died last Sunday five days after the incident.
In an interview John in a sober mood, wondered why he should kill his own daughter and heaped the blame on Satan.
“I am not crazy to give birth to a child and at the same time kill the child. I don’t have a mother or father, my children are everything to me. So why should I kill her? My intention was to hit the plank on her back to make her feel the pain and nothing more but it landed on her forehead.

REVEALED: President Jonathan Working Hard To Protect Aviation Minister, As Both Share Same Hotel In Jerusalem

Contrary to the impression created by President Goodluck Jonathan that he plans to ‘probe’ the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah over the fraudulent purchase of two BMW armored cars, the President and his team are working very hard to shield the Minister according to reports by Saharareporters.

Investigations show that Mrs. Oduah was listed as one of the 54 officials that traveled within the inner circle of the President to Israel.  President Jonathan however gave her the permission to travel ahead of the delegation 24 hours early under the guise that she would be signing the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Israel.  As it turns out, the BASA agreement is not due for signing until October 29, following which Mr. Jonathan will depart for Nigeria.

Mrs. Oduah is also one of the ministers listed to follow the President to a meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas in the Occupied Palestinian territory, also on October 29.

Since arriving in Israel, Mr. Jonathan and several officials, including Mrs. Oduah, have occupied the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, and she has had direct access and regular meetings with the President.

BrymO has been served a court injunction by his  former record label Chocolate City  through their Law Firm L&A Legal Consultants. The injunction mentions the contractual agreement with Chocolate city that his recording contract will expire in 2016 and as such the artiste(BrymO) cannot record, release or distribute any composition, song, musical works or carry out any activity as a recording or performing artist through or for the benefit of any person or organization other than Chocolate City pending the determination of the suit against him.

Olawale ‘ BrymO’ Ashimi took to twitter to vent about the court injunction gotten against him by former label. The artiste who recently released his album titled ‘MERCHANT, DEALERS AND SLAVES’ on iTunes (which is currently selling for approximately N1600 a pop) has promised to flood the streets with physical copies of his 11 track LP soon. Lanre Lawal, BrymO’s manager reacting to the news in a chat with HiphopWorld confirmed that they will still be going ahead with the CD release of BrymO’s album. He stated, “We are not aware of any injunction and we will still be going ahead with the release.”

BrymO who was once a member of the Chocolate City family has since left the label which houses Ice Prince and M.I Abaga, stating indirectly that the bosses at his former label are sitting on his career.

English FA Hits Mourinho With A Charge...

Jose Mourinho was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association on Monday after being sent to the stands during Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Cardiff.

There were a number of controversial incidents in the Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Chelsea manager Mourinho was sent to the stands by referee Anthony Taylor for the final 20 minutes after losing his cool when a series of decisions went against his team.

Mourinho went to sit with the fans, making the day of those he sat next to, but his own frustration was clear.

Earlier in the match, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard had scored a controversial equaliser after Samuel Eto’o dispossessed Cardiff’s David Marshall as the goalkeeper bounced the ball, contrary to FIFA rules.

The former Real Madrid boss has been given until 1700GMT on Thursday to respond to the charge.

The nature of the offence means Mourinho is most likely to face a fine, rather than a ban.

Police nab fake LUTH Doctor...

Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a 40-year-old man, Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure, a suspected fake medical doctor, who claimed to be a staff of Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, with card No. 13541, identifying him as a surgeon and gynaecologist. The fake medical doctor was also said to have fraudulently obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe of 2, Adesanya Close, Ifeko-Gbagada.Akintolure, who said he uses the wife’s car as a mobile clinic, said the money in question was borrowed from Umosekhaimhe, adding “actually, it was not N500,000. It was N260,000 she lent me to use for my brother’s ailment.”
He said he is from Ondo State, studied Marketing at ObafemiAwolowoUniversity, Ife, as a part-time student and graduated in 1997.According to Akintolure, “I have not treated more than 10 people. I just treat them for malaria and typhoid and I also give injections too because of my experience at RivicHospital at Akure.”When asked how he got the identity card, he said he got it from a business centre and that the computer operator signed it for him. He said that he charges between N3,000 and N4,000 per patient, adding that his wife was not aware of his trade.
Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ngozi Braide, said she received a petition at the area H Police Command Headquarters, Ogudu, on July 19, that one Adeyemi Stephen Akintolure obtained N500,000 from one Joy Umosekhaimhe.Braide said that a letter was written to LUTH on July 23 to authenticate Akintolure claims of being a staff.She said: “On October 10, LUTH replied that the suspect is not an employee of the hospital and was not issued the identity card.“In view of the revelation, the suspect confessed that he is not a medical doctor, but has been practising for about four years, using his wife’s vehicle as a mobile clinic.” She said his house and vehicle were searched and drugs, injections, syringes and laboratory coat were recovered. -

Timbaland's Wife Files for Divorce...

Timbaland's wife has filed for divorce ... TMZ has learned ... and she's not only demanding that he foot the bill for their kid, she wants him to pay for a kid he didn't even father.

Monique Mosley says in her divorce docs -- obtained by TMZ -- that although she and Timbaland have been married for 5 years, they've been a couple for twice that time.  In addition to their 5-year-old daughter, Monique has a 10-year-old from another relationship.

So why, you ask, is she asking for child support for both kids?  Monique says Timbaland is the daddy by default, since he's "publicly and privately proclaimed this child as his own."

But that's not all.  Monique wants alimony, life insurance, private school, vacations, summer camp and other expenses.  She says she's so strapped for cash, she had to borrow money from a friend to pay her lawyer.  She wants Timbaland -- who's worth around $80 mil -- to foot the lawyer's bill.

It was end of the road for suspected six-man kidnap gang when operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) ended their reign of terror in Azia, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The kidnappers had in the early hours of yesterday kidnapped one Sunday Okoye, a member of the community.
In the process, the alleged kidnappers were gunned down, while their victim, who was in the trunk of a car, was rescued by operatives of SARS with minor bullet injuries.
The SARS operatives, led by its commander in the state, James Nwafor, a chief superintendent of police (CSP), engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel when they made attempt to whisk their victim to Asaba, Delta State.
The kidnap suspects, led by a notorious gang leader, popularly known as Nonso Mgbe, were alleged to be the killers of the Officer Commanding SARS at the Central Police Station, Mr.  Emma Ochuobi, in May 2013 in the commercial city of Onitsha and since then had been on the run.
Items recovered from the suspects were three AK47 rifles, 36 magazines, 413 rounds of ammunition and a box of charms with various sizes.
Speaking to newsmen at the SARS headquarters in Awkuzu, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Emeka Chukwuemeka said the battle would continue till December, adding that the operation was a mop-up action initiated by the command to get rid of criminals in Anambra State.
“Yesterday, between 8 and 9pm, a gang of six persons kidnapped one Sunday Innocent Okoye in his Honda Acura Legend car in Awka and took him away. When the information got to the police command, our men were deployed to cordon off all major roads within and outside Awka, and the manhunt began.
“At about 2.20am, Sunday morning, we saw the gang when they were making effort to move to one of the neighbouring states and on citing police vehicles, they open fire and the police retaliated and gunned four of them down.
“The other two, who sustained injuries later died and this is a warning to such hoodlums in Anambra that the place is no longer safe for them especially from now till the Yuletide period.
“We will continue this operation till December and we want to make sure that our brothers and sisters who will be home for Christmas will be at peace and enjoy their stay. Anambra is no longer a hide out for criminals,” Chukwuemeka said.
The Chairman of Campaign for Democracy (CD), Dede Uzor Uzor yesterday commended the Anambra State Police Command for the wonderful job they are doing in the state especially the SARS commander, CSP James Nwafor.
Uzor said they still have some work to do in making sure that three other kidnapped victims since December 5, 2012 , Vitus Ezekwueme (aka VTS), Ifeanyi Okoye and Ifezue were rescued.

"I Want To Establish A Church" - Beverly Osu

My Convent Experience 
It affected me in a very spiritual way. In as much as I know worldly things, I still fear God and have faith in Him.  The reason why I wanted to become a nun was because I was raised in a Catholic home.  I just felt it was the best thing for me to do at that time. I used to see myself as a messenger of God.  Even though I did not become a nun, I still remain faithful to God. Part of my dreams is to establish a church and do a lot of charity work.
Me and Big Brother
I went there of my own freewill and spending time in the house has greatly influenced my lifestyle. I have changed in a lot of ways. I am cutting down on friends because I have too many of them home and abroad.  Also, I have always been a very impatient person but staying in the Big Brother house has changed all that for me.  The experience taught me to tolerate people because a lot of them annoyed me in that house.  While I was there, I learnt that good things come to those who wait. It was difficult initially because I was always conscious of the cameras but I had to live with it.
My Affair with Angelo
I fell in love with Angelo. I am a very open person and I do not like to hide my feelings.  The concept of the show was reality.  Since it did not require pretence or play acting, I just became true to myself. Concerning the issue of sex in the house, I have said it many times that there was no sex involved. The bathtub incident was just blown out of proportion by the media. If there was a camera inside the bath water, everyone would have clearly seen that Angelo had his boxers on.  But I guess since I was the naked one, it was easy to rush to conclusion. Time will tell if there is a future for the relationship.  Also, I believe relationships should be left in the hands of God.  He decides when and who you can move with from one stage to another. For now, I can only say I had fun while the stay in the house lasted and right now, I am still having fun. I am a young lady.  I have a lot going for me and so many things to be done.
