Police in Ebonyi State have arrested a 38-year-old man identified as John (surname withheld) for allegedly raping an 82-year-old woman at Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the sate, Mr Chris Anyanwu, who paraded the suspect yesterday at the police headquarters in Abakiliki, said on June 8, the suspect, who hails from Ugboju in Oturkpo Local Government Area in Benue State, was arrested for allegedly raping the old woman, a native of Umunira Okposi community. He said the woman had boarded a commuter bus from Enugu to Okposi but when the driver got to a point after dropping other passengers, he dragged her to the rear side of the vehicle and raped her. The suspect was also alleged to have robbed the woman of N8,500 cash. The PPRO said when the suspect was arrested, he allegedly admitted to have committed the crime.
Anyanwu also said one Friday (24) a motorcyclist was arrested for allegedly raping a 23-year-old SS3 student at Okporo village in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. He said the suspect, a relation of the victim, picked her and later veered off towards Okporo forest, where he attacked her with fist blow, bit her and tore her cloth before raping her.
The PPRO said another suspect, Okwudili (30) was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a 30-year-old woman in her farm, where she was cultivating wheat. The suspect allegedly lured her into a completed building where he pounced on her with the motive of raping her but for the help of two passersby, who were attracted by the scream of the woman and rescued her.
