Extort motorists and be dismissed – FRSC boss

FRSC
Officers and marshalls of the Federal Road Safety Corps caught extorting motorists and commercial drivers risk dismissal, Assistant Corps Marshall, in-charge of Command’s Administration and Operations, Headquarters, Mr. Ademola Lawal, has said.

Lawal gave the warning in Yenagoa  on Tuesday, while addressing officers and marshalls of Bayelsa State Command as part of his visit to commands in his zone.
The ACM,  who said Bayelsa was the third command out of the eight commands in his zone, urged them to key into the corp’s 2014 corporate strategic goals to realise the mandate of the organisation.
He said the four core goals the corps had to pursue in 2014 comprised improved supervision corps-wide; improved regulation and enforcement capacity; improved road safety audit and motor vehicle administration;  and improved public communication and road use education.
Lawal said, “FRSC has been described as a good example of a lead agency. We do not want officers and marshals that do not want to key into the Corps standards and ethical requirements.
“In the area of extortion for instance, you won’t tell me that you do not know that FRSC has zero tolerance for extortion. Let me reiterate here that anyone caught extorting motorists will be shown the way out of the organisation.
“Those collecting money on the highway are collecting blood money. It is ungodly and it won’t help you. Above all, when you are caught,  you will be dismissed.“
He sternly warned patrol officers, saying that without their complicity,  there was no way marshals could extort money from members of the public.
