The Nigerian Army has debunked the rumour making the rounds
that some of its officers were plotting to overthrow the President
Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
The army,
yesterday, said as a focused and professional institution, it does not have
time to engage in such abominable and heinous crime like coup plotting, and
warned those peddling the rumour to desist from it or have themselves to blame.Besides, the army said as the greatest beneficiary of democracy, it cannot embark on such anti-democratic misadventure.
Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, who made this known, in a statement described the latest trend as dangerous and a declaration of war to destabilise the present administration.
He, however, said the army was investigating the matter to unravel those behind the dangerous insinuation and the motive.
Usman, while declaring the loyalty of officers and men of the Nigerian Army to the present democratic dispensation and obedience to civil authority, described the rumour as “baseless and most unfortunate allegation that existed in the warped minds of the originators of such weighty allegation”.
