Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 140 suspected internet fraudsters, also known as yahoo boys, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The
EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement
on Thursday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
He
explained that the suspects were nabbed in separate sting operations at popular
hotels in Ikorodu, following credible intelligence on their involvement in
internet-related fraud.
Uwujaren,
however, stated that four of the suspects were released after the EFCC
discovered that no incriminating item was in their possession.
He
listed the items recovered from other suspects to include exotic cars,
electronic devices, laptops, and mobile phones, adding that they would be
charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
