FG Pays N361bn to Ex-PHCN Staff

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) yesterday maintained over  N361 billion had so far been remitted to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation for payment of 43, 375 staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), translating to about 95 percent of the total number of the defunct organisation’s workforce paid so far.
The privatisation agency in direct response to allegations by the General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), Mr. Joseph Ajaero, that 25, 000 PHCN staff had not been paid severance benefits said such statement was untrue.
According to the BPE: “That brings the payment made with regards to the validated staff to 94.79% of the workforce. Validation of another 2,382 has been concluded and payments are in process.
“This brings the total number of staff verified to 45, 757 or 95.5% of the purported staff strength of PHCN. Furthermore, the Committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power is still working tirelessly to validate the remaining 4.5% of the work force. These are purported staff that the Committee has so far not been able to obtain documents/information to validate their claims to being staff of PHCN.”
