Stern looking, gun wailing security agents have taken charge in
the on-going recruitment and selection examination packaged by the presidential
committee for the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Lagos.
Security source said it
the development is aimed at forestalling possible bloodbath, stampede or death,
which characterized the recruitment exercise conducted by Nigerian Immigration
Service exercise in which a number of persons lost their lives in the stampede
that followed, while thousands were critically injured.
The agents on ground
comprise armed operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), officials of the
Nigerian Immigration Service, operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil
Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as soldiers from OP MESA, who were seen
patrolling the streets around the company.
Meanwhile, immigration
sources, who spoke off records said that the computer based exercise began on
Monday and will run through till Saturday, across the states of the federation.
In Lagos, NIS, Zone A,
Ikeja, whose armed officers were ground, our sources said their duties were to
provide security only as consultants from the presidency handled the project
