Armed security men take over NIS recruitment in Lagos

Stern looking, gun wailing security agents have taken charge in the on-going recruitment and selection examination packaged by the presidential committee for the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in Lagos.

Security source said it the development is aimed at forestalling possible bloodbath, stampede or death, which characterized the recruitment exercise conducted by Nigerian Immigration Service exercise in which a number of persons lost their lives in the stampede that followed, while thousands were critically injured.
The agents on ground comprise armed operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service, operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as soldiers from OP MESA, who were seen patrolling the streets around the company.
Meanwhile, immigration sources, who spoke off records said that the computer based exercise began on Monday and will run through till Saturday, across the states of the federation.
In Lagos, NIS, Zone A, Ikeja, whose armed officers were ground, our sources said their duties were to provide security only as consultants from the presidency handled the project without any input from the service.
