The Golden Eaglets
continued their record-setting performance at the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World
Cup on Wednesday when they defeated Australia 6-0 to become the joint-biggest
scoring side in the history of the competition’s knockout stages.
According to FIFA.com, Japan first achieved the
record in 2011 when they beat New Zealand 6-0 in the Round of 16. Nigeria
became the second side to do same with Wednesday’s win.
“Nigeria’s
6-0 victory over Australia is the joint-biggest win in the history of the FIFA
Under-17 World Cup knockout stages, level with Japan’s 6-0 win against New
Zealand in 2011, which also come in the Round of 16,” FIFA wrote.
