The Permanent
Secretary, Zamfara State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,
Alhaji Abubakar Bello, yesterday, narrowly escaped being lynched by aggrieved
council workers over unpaid salaries…
It was gathered that
the quick intervention of men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps,
NSDC, attached to the ministry, who whisked him away, saved the situation.
The
incident took place when hundreds of workers stormed the ministry demanding
payment of their March, 2016 salaries accusing the Permanent Secretary of
diverting the money meant for the payment of their salaries into
personal use. One of the aggrieved workers, Tasiu Yusuf claimed the Permanent
Secretary deliberately refused to give approval for the payment of the salaries,
saying “we came here to ask why the delay in paying us our salaries.
Are we not workers?”
The workers drawn from various local governments across the state also vowed
not to leave the premises until cogent reason was given to them why their
salaries was being delayed.
