There was a mild drama yesterday at Ogidi High Court, in Anambra
State, when policemen from Zone 9 Umuahia stormed the court to arrest one Chief
Okey Nwaforagu whose two nephews were shot dead last week by unknown persons.
Two
persons were killed last week at Okpuno, Abor Akauzor, Umusioma Village Nkpor,
Idemili North Local Government Area in a beer palour while another person was
shot and currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The
bereaved Nwaforagu whose two nephews, Chibuzor Ajaetu, popularly known as “Asa
Ogbe,” a trader and Uzochukwu Ezeme, a vigilante operative, were shot dead last
Wednesday, had gone to Ogidi High Court with Okpuno, Abor Akauzo Umusiome
kinsmen, to attend to a pending case instituted against them, when the
police from Umuahia arrived and attempted to bundle him to Umuahia.
Youths
from the area in the court resisted the arrest and disagreed with the police,
insisting that they should first allow the completion of investigation of the
murder of their two sons, who were Nwaforagu’s nephews, before arresting him
for any unclear allegation.
Narrating
the incident to newsmen, Chief Nwaforagu said “the police from Umuahia arrived
the court and were discussing with the people that brought them who identified me.
The police said they needed me in Umuahia and I sent a test message to
Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Umuahia and later called him to
complain my attempted arrest.’
It
was gathered that it took the intervention of the Anambra State Commissioner of
Police, Mr. Sam Okaula, to avert breakdown of law and order and forceful taking
of Chief Nwaforagu from the court premises Ogidi to Umuahia.
