A police Sergeant attached to the Festac police command in Lagos reportedly shot dead one Oyoma Edewor, a 33-year-old building finishing contractor on Saturday evening for refusing to give him bribe.

According to an eyewitness, Oyoma's car had broken down somewhere around Lekki, so he decided to get a towing van to take it home rather than leave it on the road to obstruct traffic.

On their way, they were sighted by a police team who hijacked the nearest commercial bus and chased after them until they caught up with them. They were asked to stop by the policemen, Sergeant Otene and his colleague who carried out the act.
They dragged Oyoma out of his jeep and asked him to sit on the ground, after which they asked him to settle them.
He was about explaining his predicament to them when the trigger happy police officer, Sgt Otene who was said to be drunk pulled the trigger and shot him at close range.
Though the police officer has been reportedly arrested, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Festac Command is allegedly trying to act funny by changing the face of the story in order to absolve his men while Oyoma's friends are demanding justice.

This is not the first time security operatives will waste a civilians life. Just last month, on the 25th of April, a Naval officer was accused of killing a bus conductor in Oshodi area of Lagos for refusing to give him bribe and the following week they beat up another man in front of the Silverbird galleria in Victoria Island.
