A jealous wife who threw
an acid in the face of a young waitress working at her husband's restaurant has
been jailed for nine years.
Sau Lin-Hin, 48, mixed
caustic soda with water and threw it on Zhijian Zhang because she wanted to
make her look 'less attractive'.
The 22-year-old - also
known as Jackie - suffered life changing injuries to her right arm, shoulder,
chest and the right side of the face.
She was also lucky not
to lose her sight.
The attack happened at
the Royal China restaurant in Sandown, Isle of Wight, and Ms Zhang was rushed
to a specialist hospital in London for treatment.
In a victim impact
statement, Ms Zhang said she had also been disfigured on parts of her body not
directly affected by burns as surgeons had used other areas for skin grafts.
She can no longer be
exposed to sunshine without wearing lots of sunscreen and cannot wash without
the help of her sister.
She lost her job, is
dependant on her family and is worried she might not be able to work or find
love again because of her scars.
