A Texas man
who had just won $500 from a scratch-off lottery ticket did not
want to share his winnings with his girlfriend. When the two argued about the
money, he shot her in the chest and then turned the gun on himself, The Grio reports.
Terry Martin, 46, was pronounced dead inside his home. Although
his girlfriend, 48-year-old Laurice Hampton,
was able to dial 9-1-1, saying “that she had been shot and that he had shot
himself after he shot her,” she later died at the hospital. The two were found
inside their master bedroom of the Forth Worth, Texas, home they
shared.
Homicide Sergeant Joe Loughman said
that the couple had been living together for several years and had known each
other since childhood. “We received information that the suspect had won $500
on a Texas lottery scratch-off ticket and that the victim wanted half of the
proceeds. The suspect didn’t want to share it with her,” he reported.
Martin had previously been sentenced to one day
in jail after assaulting Hampton in November of 2011. He was also fined $214.
