Abia monarch assassinated!

Unidentified gunmen, yesterday, killed Eze James Nwabeke, the traditional ruler of Ikeala Ahiaba autonomous community in Obingwa council area of Abia State at his residence.

Vanguard gathered that the body of the late monarch was mutilated, while his wife and daughter in-law were also attacked with machete. When Vanguard visited the community, the women were still bleeding from the injuries. Though the reason for the attack was yet to be ascertained, it was gathered that the late monarch was preparing for his coronation.

A resident of the community told Vanguard that the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when they were awakened to disturbances in the neighbourhood and discovered that the monarch had been killed. According to the resident, “Eze Nwabeke was easygoing and a peace-loving man, who had contributed immensely to the development of this community. We wonder why someone will go to the extent of killing him.”
