Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom
Wike, has alleged plot by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the
Nigerian Army to arrest prominent leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) on the eve of the March 19, 2016 rerun elections in the state.
He also alleged that
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Davies
Ibiamu Ikanya, has written a letter to the Director-General of the DSS and the
Nigerian Army High Command, requesting the arrest of the PDP chieftains.
Wike, who spoke at the
weekend Luwa community in Khana local government area of the state , during the
50th birthday anniversary celebration of Senator Lee Maeba, said he intercepted
the letter by Ikanya to the security agencies.
The governor reiterated
that the people of the state will resist any attempt to use the security forces
to rig the rerun elections, saying no matter the level of intimidation and
arrests of PDP members by the security forces, PDP will win the rerun
legislative elections.
