Six
persons were killed Sunday night in Ibaa Community, Emohua
Local Government Area of Rivers State, by gunmen suspected to be cultists.
This was coming less than 48 hours after eight
persons, including the eldest man of a community in Ahoada east local
government area of the state, were killed by unknown gunmen.Rivers State Police Command confirmed death of only three persons. The Command’s Public Relation Officer, Almad Muhammad who confirmed the story to newsmen in Port Harcourt, said three persons lost their lives when two rival cult groups, the Dembam and Icelanders, clashed in the area.
Eye witnesses said gunmen suspected
to be members of Ice landers cult group on a reprisal mission
invaded the community in the wee hours of Sunday and opened fire on
residents.
The witnesses said six persons, including Prince Nyenke, Mr. Dirinna and Mr. Kpomasir were killed during the attack.
A community source disclosed to journalists that the gunmen laid siege on the community and operated freely without interruption from any quarters.
The source who was privy to the development, said the gun-toting marauders moved freely from house to house in search of the members of the Icelanders.
Our reporter gathered that the only police post located in the community was deserted while residents fled.
Meanwhile, the Caretaker Chairman of Emohua LGA, Mr. John Wokoma who visited the community, described the situation as pathetic and assured that the council would do everything humanly possible to assuage the situation.
