The National Identification Management Commission, NIMC, has called on Nigerians to avail themselves of the ongoing enrollment exercise in its Unified Identification System to obtain National Identification numbers and be issued the new National Identity cards.
Since the registration process began, many have criticized it as another era of card issuance in the country. But Director General of the Commission, Chris Onyemenam while speaking at a forum in Lagos told his audience that the process goes beyond mere card issuance. Onyemenam said as a country, Nigeria stands to gain a lot from the E-ID system.
Managing Director, Chams PLC, Demola Aladekomo lent a voice on the issue, telling the gathering how effectively, the National Identification system can impact on the economy.
The process of enrollment may seem straightforward but many Nigerians are yet to obtain their National Identification Numbers and cards.
President Jonathan has mandated the Commission to ensure that all Nigerians get registered by December 31, 2014.
