Police arrest two lovers over robbery attack

The police in Lagos have arrested two lovers, Mary Paul and her boy friend, Victor Egbere, for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted murder of a former lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), 75-year-old Professor Abiodun Oluwole.

The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), led by Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police (SP) after the Professor was attacked and robbed in his M.K.O Abiola Garden home, Alausa, Ikeja.
It was gathered that following the report by the Professor who was tied with a rope, blindfolded and dispossessed of hard currencies and other valuables, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command Umar Manko directed Kyari to fish out the robbers which paid off days later.
Further investigation revealed that Mary, 25, was hired as a house help to the Professor in March this year but gave a fictitious name as Blessing to her employer.
Barely one month after she was employed, she allegedly connived with her boyfriend, Egbere, to rob her master.
It was gathered that Egbere struck at about 1.30 pm with a kitchen knife on the fateful day while the Professor was watching television and he went straight to the man’s bed room and ordered him to cooperate otherwise he would be stabbed to death.
He tied the old man’s hands behind, blindfolded him with a piece of cloth before ransacking the house and made away with $3,000, 120 British Pounds and N20, 000.
Also collected from the Professor’s house by the suspected robbers were telephone sets and i-Pad.
He escaped with Mary his girlfriend who called the driver to the victim to inform him that armed robbers had attacked the Professor and that she had escaped for her dear life.
It was gathered that for the quick intervention of the driver and policemen, the Professor whose eyes and nose were covered, would have suffocated to death.
The suspects have confessed to the crime, blaming the devil for their deeds.
