Burial tragedy: 23 die in auto crash

Tragedy occurred in Akamkpa Lo­cal Government Area of Cross River State, as 15 peo­ple were feared dead in a motor accident along Calabar-Awi-Akamk­pa Expressway of the state.

The accident happened at the early hours of yes­terday, involving a gold Picnic car and a 14-seater Hiace bus. The Hiace bus was said to be coming from Ikom with about 18 passengers while the Picnic mini bus was carrying six passen­gers from Calabar going for a burial of one of their friends in the northern part of the state.

An eyewitness told Dai­ly Sun that seven persons died on the spot, while all the six passengers in the Picnic bus and 17 pas­sengers from the bus died later.

The eyewitness, who was in another vehicle and simply gave his name as Atom, said the bus had a head on collision with the Picnic car.
