To lay to rest controversies surrounding the procurement of the six warships, allegedly acquired by ex-Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, the Nigerian Navy has said the gunboats belong to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The Chief of Training
and Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Austin Oyagha, made the
clarification while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
“No individual has
acquired gunboats in this country. The gunboats in question actually belong to
NIMASA and these boats are currently being manned by personnel of the Nigerian
Navy.
