An Osun State High Court on Wednesday sentenced a couple to death by hanging
for strangulating their tenant to death and stole her N48,000.
Justice
Adedotun Onibokun who sentenced the (couple) Mr. Fatai Jimoh and Lateefat Jimoh
to death by hanging noted that beside the confessional statements of the
convicts, the witnesses established their culpability.
The convicts conspired together on 12th of
August, 2009, to murder and rob Mrs Bukola Taiwo (Deceased) at Ikeketu
Village via Garage Olode in Ife South Local Government Area of the state.
Mr.
Fatai Jimoh who was the landlord of the deceased in the company of his wife
went into Bukola’s room where she normally sleep whenever she came from Ibadan
to buy palm oil and strangulated her while Lateefat aided him by smashing the
head of the deceased with sledge hammer.
They
took away the wallet containing the sum of #48,780.:00 tied to her wrapper
after the death of the deceased.
The
prosecuting Counsel from the Osun State, Ministry of Justice Barrister Moses
Faremi called four witnesses which included a Police Inspector, a Pathologist
from UCH Ibadan, the Baale of Ikeketu and the neighbour who saw what happened
and alerted others.
The
Convicts in their confessional statement made at police Station stated that
they had earlier broke into the room where the deceased kept kegs of palm oil
and sold some of it thinking that they would replace them before the incident
occurred.
Justice
Onibokun found them guilty on two counts of murder and armed robbery and
sentenced them to death by hanging.
