A
tailor, Saheed Tijani, on Tuesday, told an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court at
Agodi, Ibadan, that neighbours advised him to divorce his 25-year-old wife,
Afisat, over her disrespectful manners.
Tijani
said this while testifying before the court on reasons for seeking the
dissolution of the marriage which had produced six children.
He
said Afisat was in the habit of disrespecting him and has no regard for his
mother, adding that “her attitude at home is annoying.’’
The
plaintiff further accused her of having extramarital affair with a carpenter
who she hired to work on her new building.
“I
have been enduring her since we married hoping that she would turn a new leaf
but things get worse on daily basis.
“Her
bad character made my neighbours to advise me to divorce her;
they even wanted to assist me financially to file the suit,’’
Tijani told the court.
Afisat,
however, said she was not ready for divorce and prayed the court to plead
with the plaintiff, that she still loved him.
She
also denied having an affair with the carpenter, promising to give due
respect to the plaintiff henceforth.
Chief
Mukaila Balogun, the President of the court, appealed to the
plaintiff to give room for amicable resolution of the rift.
Balogun
adjourned the case till Monday for a report of settlement or continuation
of hearing.
