The presidency has suggested a reason it
believes Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate,
Kayode Fayemi, won the Ekiti governorship election.
Mr Fayemi defeated the candidate of the
governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olusola Eleka, in the election held
on Saturday. He won in 12 of the local governments while Mr Eleka won in four.
In a statement on Sunday, President Buhari’s
spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said the APC victory was a sign Ekiti residents
appreciate Mr Buhari’s government.
“President Buhari’s war against corruption and
insecurity; the message of agric revolution and infrastructure development and
fidelity in resource allocation and management have struck a chord with Ekiti
voters, who had been lied to and deceived by Governor Fayose,” Mr Shehu said in
the piece which was highly critical of the outgoing PDP governor, Ayo Fayose.
