Addressing propose delegates to the next month’s national convention of the party, Lamido who was also a former governor of Jigawa state said the founding members of the party like himself and others resisted the attempt to change its name and logo by certain elements, adding that anyone who is not satisfied with the present name could exit its fold.

" The PDP remains the only party with well-defined ideology, between 1999 and now all the other political parties have changed their names in the quest to wrestle power from the PDP", adding that PDP would remain constant.
On the recent defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio from the PDP, Lamido said the former governor went to the APC for "protection" alleging that the APC government showed “Senator Akpabio some files and he became afraid”

“It is a disgrace for the APC government to give former governor Akpabio the type of reception he was given" saying that “It shows that the government is not serious about fighting corruption ".

Speaking to newsmen after, Alhaji Lamido said the PDP did not lose the bye elections conducted in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi states last week saying " it is Nigeria that lost because of the impunity, injustice and corruption that pervaded the election ".
