The
People’s Democratic Party PDP will not change its name to please certain
elements that defected to its fold, a chieftain of the party Alhaji Sule Lamido
and a presidential aspirant said on Tuesday.
Addressing
propose delegates to the next month’s national convention of the party, Lamido who
was also a former governor of Jigawa state said the founding members of the
party like himself and others resisted the attempt to change its name and logo
by certain elements, adding that anyone who is not satisfied with the present
name could exit its fold.

The PDP remains the only party with well-defined ideology, between 1999 and now
all the other political parties have changed their names in the quest to
wrestle power from the PDP", adding that PDP would remain constant.
On
the recent defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio from the PDP, Lamido said the
former governor went to the APC for "protection" alleging that the
APC government showed “Senator Akpabio some files and he became afraid”
“It
is a disgrace for the APC government to give former governor Akpabio the type
of reception he was given" saying that “It shows that the government is
not serious about fighting corruption ".
Speaking
to newsmen after, Alhaji Lamido said the PDP did not lose the bye elections
conducted in Bauchi, Katsina and Kogi states last week saying " it is
Nigeria that lost because of the impunity, injustice and corruption that
pervaded the election ".
