African champions Super Eagles
chances of qualifying for the 2015 African Cup of Nations received a boost on
Wednesday after they rallied to a 3-1 victory over Sudan at the National
Stadium, Abuja.
A brace from CSKA Moscow forward,
Ahmed Musa, and an Aaron Samuel goal, gave the Eagles their first win in the
Group A qualifiers while Salah Ibrahim scored for the Desert Falcons.
The Eagles now need a win in
their remaining two matches and hope that Congo would drop points to ensure
their qualification for Morocco 2015.
Coach Stephen Keshi made a
wholesome change to the team which lost 1-0 to Sudan in Khartoum on Saturday as
he dropped Efe Ambrose, Elderson Echiejile and Nosa Igiebor to the bench and
gave full international debuts to Reading FC’s Hope Akpan and China-based Aaron
Samuel.
Nigeria’s next matches will be in
November when they travel to Brazzaville and also take on South Africa in Uyo.
