The Guardian reports that Onyebuchi, who
described the payment as ‘Greek gift’ said, he was surprise that government
paid the sum of N61,067,26 salary into his account for the month of September
2014, when he did not work anywhere.
It was reported that after Onyebuchi’s
impeachment which was contained in a letter signed by Mr Patrick Okolo, the
Secretary to the state government, he was deployed to his former office as
Deputy Director on Grade level 15.
Speaking on the development, the sacked
former deputy governor revealed that he resigned from the civil service in 2007
to contest elections and had never requested to be reinstated.
While expressing believes that the
unearned salary was paid to him in bad faith, he assured that he has returned
it in good faith, adding that the Enugu state treasury receipt number 000796193
was attached as evidence of the refund. He urged the state government to stop
any further payment of such unmerited salaries as it could amount to fraud.
