The bodies of five dead babies have been found in a house in France, with four of them concealed inside a deep freezer.
The
gruesome discovery was made after a 40-year-old father of two told police that
he had found a new-born baby inside a portable cooler at his family bungalow in
Louchats, close to Bordeaux.
After
conducting a full search of the property, French police discovered the remains
of four other babies inside a freezer.
The
man’s 35-year-old wife was immediately rushed to hospital for psychiatric
evaluation, while her husband, who has since been arrested, told investigators
that he and his two teenage daughters, were not aware of the five pregnancies.
It
is thought that the woman had ‘secretly given birth, within the last 48 hours’
According to reports,
local residents had recently seen the woman and said that she did not appear to
be pregnant, a claim supported by an unnamed relative of the father.
Philip
Carreyre, the Mayor of Louchats, said: ‘I will not say anything about this. The
only thing I can point out is that these are good people perfectly integrated
in the town’.
A
police spokeswoman added that the woman ‘does not appear to have a history of
mental illness’.
The
morbid discovery is the latest in a series of infanticides in France over
recent years.
