Rivers State Governor
Rotimi Amaechi yesterday raised the alarm that the Presidency may have approved his assassination by soldiers.
Amaechi said about 30
soldiers to be led by a Major who hails from a northern state, had allegedly
been assigned to do the job.
The governor, who
informed that the plot would have been executed on February 14, said he was not
bothered until the latest information came to him from a reliable source.
He further disclosed that
an Army General who hails from Opobo as the All Progressives Congress (APC)
governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, has flooded the community with
soldiers with a plan to deliver the place to the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP).
“If the Presdiency wants
me dead, I should let the public know,” Amaechi declared. He complained that,
“citizens are being killed everyday,” regretting that, ‘even those indicted by
the police over Okirika killings are still walking the streets free.”
Amaechi noted that he was
asked to take caution from today or leave the country. But he rejected the
advice, saying the task of effecting a change was a task to be done.
In his reaction, the
PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, dismissed Amaechi’s claim,
saying the allegation is unfounded.
“You don’t expect a
governor with an array of security men to be saying this. We expect this of
their Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, who is used to one week, one lie. We
are used to the lies of Lai Mohammed, not Amaechi.
“We wouldn’t dignify him
with a response”, he said.
