Over a dozen Alsatian dogs deployed by the Ogun
State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday
frightened striking workers, who attempted to surge into the secretariat at
Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The workers were
protesting the non-payment of their pension deduction, among others. The government ordered
the workers to report to work yesterday and issued a “no work no pay” circular
signed by the Head of Service, Sola Adeyemi.
But yesterday hundreds of
workers led by the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Akeem
Ambali, marched on the road leading to the secretariat and hurriedly beat a
retreat when Alsatian dogs charged at them.
The workers, bearing
placards with inscriptions denouncing the government’s ‘no work, no pay’
order, said the state belongs to us and urged Governor Ibikunle Amosun to pay
their deductions if he wants them to resume work.
