Police have charged a mother with child cruelty after she allegedly placed her two-year-old daughter in an oven inflicting serious burns.
Tasha
Shontell Hatcher, of Glen Rose Texas, was
arrested on Thursday night after witnesses said they saw her put the toddler in
the hot cooker.
The 35-year-old single
mum has now been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury and
held on a £200,000 bond.
Hatcher’s daughter was
rushed to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth but was later taken by air
ambulance to the Parkland Burn Centre in Dallas.
Police, who were called
to the scene, say the hotel worker admitted she had put her daughter in the
cooker.
The incident is being
investigated by the Somervell County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers and
Child Protective Services, according to the statement.
A spokeswoman from the Child Protective Services said the
girl, whose name has not been released, will be placed in foster when she is
released from hospital.
