The Chibok Community in
Abuja on Tuesday said the suspected female suicide bomber that was arrested in
Cameroon was not from their community, based on information made available
to them by the Federal Government.
The Chairman of the
community, Tsambido Abana, told Punch on Tuesday that the suspect had never
attended a conventional school, noting that the minor, who does not speak
English, was believed to be from Bama area of Borno State.
Asked if his group had
seen the girl’s picture, Abana stated that it was not released to him or his
community members, adding that the picture was given to Aisha Oyebode of
Murtala Muhammed Foundation for verification.
He said he would not
approach the foundation for the picture, noting that it was clear that the girl
was not from Chibok, fbased on the information released by the government.
“I won’t bother to go
and see the picture, because from the information given by the government, it
is apparent that the girl is not from Chibok. Going to see the picture would
create an unnecessary tension and expectation among the Chibok parents whose
daughters are missing,” he said.
The BringBackOurGirls
group also said it had not seen the picture of the suspect, saying it (picture)
was not made available to them.
A co-coordinator of the
group, Aisha Yesufu, said the government did not release any picture to the
group.
The BBOG had earlier
advised the government to authenticate the suspect’s claim that she was one of
the abducted 219 Chibok girls.
