Police arrest teacher for kidnapping 2 pupils in Ogun

Police in Ebonyi State have arrested a 27-year-old teacher, Kingson (surname withheld), who allegedly kidnapped two of his pupils in a private school at Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, brought them to Ebonyi and demanded N250, 000 ransom from their parents.

The suspect, a member of staff of a private school at Molipa in Ijebu Ode, was nabbed in his home town of Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State with the children, following a tip off.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Mr. Chris Anyanwu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said the teacher took advantage of his familiarity with the family of the victims to perpetrate the crime.
He said the suspect took the children, Dolapo (9) and Solo (7) to his village where he demanded N250, 000 ransom before releasing the victims, but noted that the parents of the kids were able to pay N150, 000 to the account number the suspect gave to them and was waiting for the balance of N100, 000 before he was arrested.
According to him: “Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a kidnapper and a teacher,  Kingson,  a native of Ugoeze village in Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area. A 27-year-old man who teaches at Imperial International School Molipa in Ijebu Ode in Ogun State. On July 8, 2014, the said Kingson abducted two pupils  from the same parents of the said school, who were usually under his care because he teaches in the same school.
He, however, warned parents against trusting people they don’t know very well, stressing that none of the parents knew where the teacher was living but the suspect was going into their house at will until the matter came up.
“Parents should learn lesson from this matter and should be careful on whom they entrust their children without knowing them very well and urged the general public to always give police information when they suspect any movement or crime around them in order to make the society better” he warned.
