The Ogun State Police Command sunday arrested Tolani Ajayi, who allegedly murdered his biological father, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), at the Redemption Camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last Tuesday.

In a statement by the state Police Public Relation Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Muyiwa Adejobi, the lawyer, Charles Ajayi’s 60-year-old body was discovered and recovered from a nearby bush at Canaan Land Street in the RCCG Camp.
His body had been concealed in a box after he had been allegedly killed by his son.
Adejobi said the suspect, Tolani 21, a 300 level student of the Department of History and International Relations of Redeemer University, RCCG Camp Ogun State, was arrested at his father’s residence.
He added that he was arrested after the discovery of the corpse and police preliminary findings at the scene of the incident.
He said the District Police Officer at the Redemption Camp, Superintendent of Police (SP) Olaiya Martins had led a team of detectives and some members of the community who noticed the strange attitude of the suspect, while dumping the box at a particular place, adding that the team were led to the point where the body of the SAN was dumped.
However, while interrogating the suspect, Adejobi said Tolani had lied insisting that his dad had gone on evangelism before he eventually confessed to the crime when he was taken to the Redemption Camp Divisional Headquarters.
Speaking on why he killed his father, Tolani explained that the problem arose when his late father confronted him for not responding to all the prayer points he (the deceased) was calling and the late father slapped him.
Tolani further said after the slap he went berserk and went straight to the kitchen to pick up a knife to stab him and later a cutlass to cut his throat that killed him.
Adejobi said the knife and cutlass, which had been used in killing the senior advocate were recovered and would be used as exhibits, adding that the corpse of the SAN had been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Ikemefuna Okoye had sent a team of detectives led by the officer in charge of the Homicide Section of the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta, to assess the situation for further investigation and necessary action.
He said the commissioner appealed to parents to always show their children the right path to follow by teaching them the right values and morals.
“It is incredible to hear and see such a situation where a son would kill his father in a prayer session,” he said.
