A senior member of
staff of one of the old generation banks located in Sapele, Delta State,
Dickson Umueri, has allegedly disappeared with the sum of N1.4m belonging to
the bank.
It was reliably
gathered that this would be the second time an employee of the bank will disappear
into thin air with millions of money.
It was learnt that the
suspect vanished on Thursday with the money and did not show up for work the
following day.
Umueri was also said to
have relocated from his residence.
Confirming the
incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. CelestinaKalu, said
that officials of the bank reported the matter to the Sapele Police Division
where it is currently being investigated.
Kalu disclosed that the
suspect was until his disappearance, an employee of the bank, adding that the
suspect had been declared wanted over the missing money.
She explained that
detectives had been placed on alert to fish out the suspect and bring him to
justice.
Kalu, however, called
on members of the public for information about the whereabouts of the suspect.
Officials of the bank,
who did not want their names in the print, said that the money belonged to a
customer, who had be running an account with the bank since the last three
years.
The crime was said to
have been committed in collusion with two other employees of the bank who are
currently in police custody.
They allegedly hatched
the plan to steal the money after the customer lodged the money in his account.
The suspect was said to
have issued a teller of lodgment indicating that she paid in some money into
her account.
