A 67-year-old man was among 117 suspects paraded by Edo State
Police Command, yesterday, for armed robbery, kidnapping and rape.
Police Public Relations Officer of the
command, DSP Felix Onwochei, who paraded the suspects in Benin, said the
alleged rapist (names withheld) defiled the 10-year-old girl at Ubiane, near
Aviele, in Edo State.
He said some of the arms recovered from the
suspects include five AK-47 rifles, 25 cut-to-size guns, four single-barrelled
guns, three pump action guns and 52 live cartridges.
Those paraded include 35 suspected armed
robbers, 20 suspected kidnappers, 33 suspected cultists, 10 involved in illegal
possession of firearms, six suspected murderers and 13 persons involved in rape
and child defilement.
According to Onwochei, the suspected armed
robbers and kidnappers arrested at Iguobazuwa and Esigie areas of Benin, had
been involved in series of robbery attack and kidnap activities in these areas
in the past few months.
While disclosing that four cars and cell
phones were recovered from them, he said: “This arrests were made after a
tip-off from members of the public and with our crack team of detectives in the
streets, we were able to round up these criminals, who have been terrorising
different communities in Edo State.
“They have all confessed to the crime and
after investigation, they will be charged to court for the various offences
they committed.”
