NDLEA declares Anambra’s drug baron wanted

The  Anambra State Command of the National Drug  Law Enforcement Agency has declared a suspected drug baron in the state, one Uche Baron, wanted.

According to the NDLEA, Baron is the highest distributor of cannabis sativa or Indian Hemp in Anambra State and its environs.
The State Commander of the agency, Mr. Sule Momodu, said this on Tuesday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, at a press conference.
Momodu said the wanted Baron had  a warehouse at the Onitsha Main Market, where he syndicated cannabis sativa.
The NDLEA boss said the fleeing suspect escaped arrest on August 20 when the command raided the market.
He said the command had arrested one of the agents of the suspect, Ugochukwu Chukwu.
Momodu added that Chukwu, 30, who is also Baron’s in-law, hailed from Okwe , Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.
The commander said 109.8 kg of cannabis sativa  was recovered from Chukwu upon arrest.
He stated that Chukwu would soon be arraigned, while appealing to judges to assist the agency in the war against drug offenders.
“Our cases are well prepared, and they are water-tight. We look forward to getting justice. We want a situation where drug offenders will get jail terms from 15 to 25 years or life imprisonment,” Momodu added.
He called on those who knew the whereabouts of Baron to avail the command with information on how he could be arrested.
Momodu said, “Those in the Onitsha main market know him. We don’t want to invade the market for obvious reasons; but we have the resources and the power to do that.”
The agency expressed gratitude to the Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, for his assistance to the command, pledging to sustain the war against drug offenders in the state.
