A civil servant, Ebenezer Bankole Agbetuyi, has landed
himself in trouble minutes after an Ado Ekiti Customary Court dissolved his
11-year-old marriage.
Agbetuyi, had dragged his wife, Bukola Agbetuyi, to the court
seeking dissolution of the marriage and custody of their two children, Yetunde,
10 and a year-old baby.
Court President, Joseph Ogunsemi, dissolved the marriage
following his complaint that his wife engaged in frequent fighting, keeping
late outside, lack of care for him and showing no respect for his family.
Ogunsemi granted custody of the children to Bukola in view of
their tenderness and that evidence proved that the respondent had been taking
good care of the children.
The court ordered Agbetuyi to be paying Bukola N4,000 monthly
maintenance on each of the children through the court, with effect from
September 2015 and that he would be responsible for their education.
The court also ordered that Agbetuyi, 53, would have access to
the children but he must give a prior notice before doing so.
After the judgment, Agbetuyi who tried in vain to speak
openly in court, later barged into the office of the Registrar to protest the
custody of his daughter granted his estranged wife, but was unsuccessful.
Agbetuyi was later heard shouting outside the court that he
would not pay the N4,000 ordered for the upkeep of the children.
The behaviour of Agbetuyi angered the court president who
ordered the police officer attached to the court to bring back the petitioner
who was already causing a scene outside the court premises.
Ogunsemi, delivered another ruling in which he ordered the
detention of Agbetuyi for “exhibiting indiscipline, ignorance and disturbing
the peace of the court” after the judgment and most especially when another
matter was going on.
The court president was disappointed that Agbetuyi who claimed
to be a holder of Higher National Diploma from the College of Technology, Esa
Oke, Osun State, could “behave like an illiterate in a court of record.”
Agbetuyi was consequently whisked to the nearby Okesa Police
Station for contempt of court.
