78-year-old man charged with murder after shooting wife's lover

A Texas man has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot his wife’s lover in a jealous rage.

Dennis Gibson, 78, is accused of killing his wife’s lover Vernon Burger after catching the pair together at his home in Katy, police said.

Deputies say the alleged boyfriend, 66, was shot in his side and in the back of the head after the love triangle argument.

“We saw two men outside of the house arguing and fighting against each other,” neighbor Shannon Line told KHOU.com.

“And then we heard ‘Pow, pow,' two gunshots. And that’s when we called 911.”

Burger was rushed by helicopter to a hospital after the incident at 8 a.m. Friday, but later died of his injuries.

Detectives confirmed the pair were involved in a romantic relationship.

Gibson also shot his wife Jacqueline twice, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Neighbors in the Falcon Point neighborhood were shocked by the incident and said the Gibsons were a quiet family.
