Compel my husband to sell our house, share the money – Wife begs court

A 40-year-old woman and mother of three, Mrs. Abike Fajuyi has pleaded with an Ado-Ekiti Customary court to compel her husband, Mr. Opeyemi Fajuyi to sell their house and share the money.

Abike who said she had been helpful and had obtained bank loans to support the building of their house also prayed the court to award her the custody of their three children, a male and two females, aged between six years and 15 years after her husband has decided to marry another wife.

However, Mr. Opeyemi Fajuyi, 40, on Thursday, approached the Court seeking dissolution of his 17-year-old marriage to his wife, Abike. Fajuyi is seeking the dissolution on grounds of frequent fighting, threats to life, lack of care for him and the children as well as lack of respect for his family members. Fajuyi, a resident of Oke-Ireje, Grace Avenue, Ado-Ekiti, attributed their scuffle to living with his wife in his family house.

He said his wife always fought his siblings because she claimed he was showing more care to his siblings than to her. The father of three said that his wife had taken to provoking him by refusing to do whatever he asked her to do. “Abike has no regard for my family members; she fights my siblings at will and uses abusive words on my mother whenever she tries to intervene.

“We have not been relating as husband and wife for the past four years, and when this made me to marry another woman, Abike picked up a serious fight with me. “She will not cook for me and the children in spite of the fact that I make provisions for foodstuffs in the house,” he said.

Abike, 40, however, denied the allegation that she was fond of not cooking for her husband and the children.
She also denied being disrespectful to her husband or his family members, but attributed the problem in the home to the new wife. “There was a day my husband came home with a woman he introduced as his new wife.

“This new wife is making our home a hell for me as she is always fomenting trouble; she fights me and my children. “There was even a day my husband fought me all because of his new wife,” she said.
Abike said she had been helpful and had obtained bank loans to support the building of their house.

The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after hearing from both parties, adjourned the case till Dec. 10 for further hearing.
