The son of Nasarawa
state governor, Tanko
Al-Makura, has been arrested over the death of a student,
Ovye Amos.
Khaleel Umar
Al-Makura is said to have crushed
Amos, a student of Government Secondary School, Lafia, with his car on Monday,
March 20.
Students
of the school reportedly took to the streets on Tuesday, March 21 to demand
justice, and they were addressed by the Commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijjani.
“He has already been arrested. I want to express my profound
dismay and sadness over what happened here yesterday. It is unfortunate, very
very unfortunate,” Tijjani told the
students.
The
arrest has been confirmed by the Police Area Commandant in charge of Lafia, Maikudi Shehu.
“It is a painful thing, we sympathize and empathize with you and
we assure you that investigation is ongoing and that particular culprit as we
are speaking now is under detention in our custody. We will keep you informed
of developments as they unfold,” Shehu said.
The students said that the younger Al-Makura was driving at top speed
when he struck Amos who had gone to buy batteries because there was no light in
the school.
