4 feared dead, scores injured as PDP, LP clash

No fewer than four persons have been feared dead and critically injured during Wednesday’s local government rerun election held in Delta State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at the Delta State police command, Celestina Kalu, however, said only one person died during the fracas, which ensued between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
The rerun election held on Wednesday, in Okpe, Ethiope East, Udu and Ndukwa East local government areas of the state.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that trouble started when one of the political parties allegedly attacked voters and party supporters, who dared to halt an ongoing electoral malpractice during voting at Abraka.
In the process, three persons were allegedly shot by some thugs, who snatched voting materials meant for a ward in Abraka.
The thugs were said to have successfully snatched ballot boxes and driven through Samangidi, while shooting sporadically into the air.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that four persons who were shot died and five others were being observed at Eku Baptist General Hospital.
It was also gathered that one of the victims, was in a critical state, and had been referred to the Delta State Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
