A set of ten-month-old conjoined twins have survived a 'miracle' 26 hour surgery to separate their entwined bodies.

Knatalye Hope Mata and Adeline Faith Mata were born joined at the abdomen and shared a liver, diaphragm, pelvis, intestines and heart lining, but after a successful operation at Texas Children's Hospital on February 17 they will now be able to grow up to "live separate lives".

The girls' mother Elysse Mata praised the medical staff who had managed to make the dream of separating the youngsters a reality.
She said: “We are so grateful to all of the surgeons and everyone who cared for our daughters and gave them the incredible chance to live separate lives.
“We know how much planning and time went into this surgery and we are so blessed to be at a place like Texas Children’s where we have access to the surgeons and caretakers that have made this dream a reality."
