The operations manager and dispatch rider of
a bank (identity withheld) in Effurun, Delta State, are cooling off in police
custody after a foiled bank robbery attempt.
Police
apprehended the duo shortly after the robbery was foiled by men of
Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, on September 4, 2015.
This
was revealed yesterday in a statement by DSP Celestina Kalu, Delta State Police
Public Relations Officer.
She
said: “Following credible information that a gang of armed robbers had
finalised plans to rob the bank on Effurun/Sapele Road, by Refinery Junction,
Warri, operatives of SARS mounted surveillance around the bank.
“At
about 5.23pm of the aforementioned date, the hoodlums invaded the said bank,
but they were successfully repelled by a combined team of SARS operatives and
mobile policemen on duty at the bank.
Meanwhile,
the operation manager of the bank, one Francis Enebeme ‘m’, and one Wilfred
Akah ‘m’, the bank’s dispatch rider, who were allegedly involved in the
planning and execution of the foiled robbery operation, have been arrested and
are undergoing investigation.
“Various
sums of money hidden in the offices by the suspects were equally recovered,”
she said. Kalu
added that Police investigation was ongoing.
