The Federal Government
has budgeted N70m to celebrate the country’s 55th Independence Anniversary.
The Secretary to the
Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who provided the figure during a
press briefing held on Tuesday in Abuja, promised that the celebration would be
a low-key programme due to the prevailing economic constraints.
If implemented, the
development will mark a clear departure from previous administrations which
usually budgetted huge amounts for the celebration.
According to the programme outlined by the organising
committee, President Muhammadu Buhari will also address the nation on October
1, 2015 by 7am.
