The Enugu State Police
Command on Thursday swore to apprehend unidentified persons, who slit the
throats of a married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Abah, in the Igboeze North
Local Government Area of the state.
Marcel and his wife,
Jacinta, were said to be asleep when they were murdered.
A statement by the
Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere
Amaraizu, said the incident occurred on September 21, at Amaja, a community
located on the border between Enugu and Benue states.
According to
information made available by the police, Marcel and Jacinta were asleep when,
at about 2am, unidentified hoodlums invaded their home and slit their throats.
It read in part, “The
dead bodies of the couple were discovered by neighbours, who alerted the police
later in the morning.”
Amaraizu said the
couple bled to death before they were discovered.
He added that the
police had commenced full investigations into the incident.
The police spokesman
assured that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.
Meanwhile, the remains
of the couple have been deposited in the mortuary at Ogurute General Hospital.
Amaraizu said the
police would carry out an autopsy on the corpses.
