The Edo State Police Command has arraigned a 72-year-old man, Mr. Solomon Ugiagbe, before an Egor Magistrate’s Court, Benin, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
The matter was reported
at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The offence, according
to the police prosecutor, contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48,
Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, as applicable in Edo
State.
The accused person
pleaded not guilty.
The presiding
magistrate, William Aziegbemhin, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and
adjourned the case till October 5, 2015.
