About 212 people have been found to be HIV
positive in the Battambang Province of Cambodia
(Asia) after being treated by an unlicensed doctor, health
authorities say. 55-year-old Yem Chrin has confessed to
reusing needles and operating without a valid license in treating the
villagers.
Chrin has been
charged with spreading the HIV virus to others, brutal murder and
operating a medical service without a license.
The 212 infected villagers were discovered after
officials tested a total of 1,940 people. Chrin’s negligence was
discovered when children as young as two and elderly citizens as old as 80
tested positive for the disease.
