President
Muhammadu Buhari has praised the government of Anambra State for deciding to
demolish houses and property used for kidnapping purposes.
Mr.
Buhari, speaking at the meeting with Nigerians in Diaspora in the United States
of America on Wednesday, commended the actions taken by the states to tackle
the spate of kidnapping in Nigeria.
In
2014, following orders from the state governor, Willie Obiano, Anambra State
demolished various properties owned or used by kidnappers.
In
May 2014 alone, a joint task force set up by Mr. Obiano demolished three houses
belonging to some dreaded kidnappers in the state.
The
houses demolished included a bungalow valued at N17 million, officials had
said. The three houses demolished that month were all situated at Aguleri,
Anambra East local government area under the supervision of the governor’s
joint task force.
The
job of the task force did not stop there, they have since continued to demolish
other houses used for kidnapping purposes in the state.
Recently,
in July, the police in the state demolished two properties used by some
kidnappers in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.
