A teenager has been found guilty of trying to blow up his former college in Newcastle. Liam Lyburd, 19, learned how to make pipe bombs and assembled a Glock semi-automatic handgun from parts bought off the internet. He also bought 94 hollow point expanding bullets.
The
19-year-old was convicted today at Newcastle Crown Court of planning mass
murder at his former college. He
had pleaded guilty to nine charges relating to making pipe bombs, two-made
explosive devices, possessing a 9mm Luger Calibre Glock gun, the bullets and CS
gas, but had denied eight charges of possessing those items with an intent to
endanger life at Newcastle College.
