An Ojo Customary Court
in Lagos on Wednesday dissolved the marriage of a 74-year-old native doctor,
Lamidi Alabi, over childlessness, adultery, and constant fighting with tenants.
The Court President,
Chief Joseph Ogunmola, in his judgment, held that “the marriage has already
broken down and is hereby dissolved with immediate effect.”
Ogunmola held that any
party that was not pleased should appeal to a superior court after 30 days of
this judgment.
He also directed that
the husband should fulfil the payment of the wife’s rent and money for
business, valued at N80,000 as agreed in court.
The court directed that
the wife should vacate the husband’s house by July 31.
The president,
therefore, appealed to both parties to maintain peace within 12 calendar months
of the judgment.
Lamidi had urged the
court to dissolve the marriage over his wife’s indulgence in adultery, constant
fighting with tenants, among others.
The petitioner, also a
landlord, accused the wife of sleeping about with other men, making trouble
with their tenants, and using church as an excuse to stay away from the house.
He told the court that
though the eight-year-old marriage was not blessed with a child, the wife
refused to change from her worrisome and reckless attitude.
“I have made several
complaints to her parents and other family members but my wife persisted with
her unruly behavior,” Lamidi said.
